El laboratorio de Nanotecnología y Nanomedicina de la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana unidad Xochimilco, es el segundo laboratorio fundado por la Dra. Tessy María López Göerne, físico química con especialidad en nanomateriales. Dicho laboratorio comenzó sus funciones en el año 2008, está especializado en la rama de Nanomedicina, es un centro de investigación dedicado a resolver problemas de la salud y cuenta con uno de los pocos microscopios electrónicos que existen en el país.

En este laboratorio se hace investigación del más alto nivel, todo mediante el método de catálisis, se desarrolló una nueva rama de la ciencia nombrada Nanomedicina catalítica.

La fundación de este laboratorio tiene como objetivo la unión de diferentes disciplinas e investigadores, generando un grupo de científicos-médicos de alto nivel para resolver problemas de salud pública.

Dichos científicos, investigadores y médicos, trabajan en conjunto con una misma finalidad: el bienestar del ser humano.

En el año 2004 la Rectoría General de la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana y la Dirección Nacional de Institutos y Hospitales de Especialidad, con una visión amplia y futurista, decidieron fundar el primer Laboratorio de Nanotecnología aplicada a la Medicina a cargo de la Dra. Tessy López.
